There are a few different parts to establishing how High Risk Merchants will place your company. Your location, payment acceptance method, industry and previous history will be the determining factors. These four aspects will decide which banks or processors we will partner your business with in order to provide the lowest rates and fastest payouts.
Your location is a deciding factor because medium risk businesses operating in the United States are able to open a domestic high risk merchant account. The same business being operated outside of the US will be required to open an offshore account.
The payment acceptance method is how your company accepts the payments. Will you be swiping the cards through a machine or taking the cards over the phone, in other words keyed in. Swipe card accounts are less vulnerable to fraud compared to merchant accounts that keyin the card information. This is mainly because it is nearly impossible for a customer to chargeback a payment if the card has been swiped through a machine.
Lastly, previous history is another deciding factor. New businesses are usually the hardest type of account to have approved. The lack of history makes most acquirers uncomfortable. Merchants will need to show solid personal financials to be able to receive an approval. Businesses with good volume and low chargebacks are among the easiest of accounts to be approved. Good volume and higher than normal chargebacks may take longer to be approved but these accounts still have a good chance of being setup.
